Alpha School—a private K–8 academy leveraging AI-personalized learning—has announced its Scottsdale debut this August and plans to open in more than a dozen markets nationwide.
Scottsdale Opening:
- First Day: August 13, 2025
- Location: North Scottsdale, near Grayhawk Park (20624 N. 76th St.)
- Enrollment: 25 students, grades K–8
- Tuition: $40,000/year
Alpha’s curriculum dedicates two hours each morning to core academics (reading, writing, math and social studies) via AI-guided modules that adapt in real time to each student’s skill level. “It’s fully individualized—students only work on what they haven’t yet mastered,” explains Matt Shenker, head of Scottsdale Alpha School.
Afternoons emphasize experiential learning and life skills—public speaking, financial literacy and emotional regulation—through hands-on projects. Past assignments have included crafting a marketing campaign, producing a documentary or even pitching a business plan: in Miami, fourth and fifth graders developed a plan for the Heat’s sales team, which the franchise adopted.
Upcoming Locations:
Texas: Houston, Fort Worth, Plano
California: San Francisco, Santa Barbara, Lake Forest
Florida: Palm Beach, Tampa
New York City
North Carolina: Raleigh, Charlotte
Virginia: Chantilly
Alpha recently partnered with Higher Ground Education (formerly Guidepost Montessori) to acquire several high-value campuses. In Scottsdale, Alpha will share space with Guidepost Montessori students under a joint-use agreement.
Future Scottsdale projects include engineering challenges tied to a Grand Canyon service trip, where middle schoolers will rebuild park structures guided by their AI-enhanced lessons. The school’s “guides” (teachers) will support students in groups of approximately eight.
Meanwhile, Arizona’s State Board for Charter Schools has also approved Unbound Academy, a fully online, AI-driven public charter for grades 4–8—unique in the U.S., as other states have paused similar proposals amid questions over virtual AI schooling. Last year, Arizona ranked last nationwide in a Consumer Affairs report on K–12 performance, funding and resources.
